Michael,

You can quite safely delete the "a little".

Its unreal in the YMML southern suburbs.

A real challenge for the flight deck I suspect.

Regards,

Geoff

Was just out at Melbourne there for an hour or so. Insane weather. Planes struggling on approach to runway 34. Gusting to 55 knots, wind at 500ft is 80knots. Thankfully its almost straight down the runway.

A rex saab arrived about an hour ago and was going absolutely everywhere on short final. Wing drops etc but he managed to get it on the deck reasonably smoothly.

Apparently will get worse later this afternoon.

I live just under the base leg of a 34 arrival (Wendy - Laver).

Visibility can be down to 2 kms, winds are very very gusty and just one big dustbowl.

Further to Daniel's information.

The BOM site

http://mirror.bom.gov.au/products/ID...ange=true#skip

isnt painting a good picture of impending weather. It can change I know.

Regards,

Geoff

This weather is something of what is Cyclone force, and the sky where I am situated (AVV) is red, and the wind blows dust in your eyes
Lanes have closed on the West Gate, and the Bolte Bridge is about to close, just in time for the busiest time of the day
Anyone grab any "windy" snaps, good luck to the little saabs, and the Dash-8's Its going to tough out there in the skies today

I THINK anything over 64 knots is hurricane force.

I am sure I will be corrected if I am wrong. Happy to be.

The BOM site I linked to in my last post isnt working at the minute now.

Probably too much demand......

Regards,

Geoff

The dust storm in Geelong is that bad, that the combination of the wind, rain and dust has made my windows impossible to see through, this weather is only good for Wind Turbines
