Default Upgrades on QF

Hi All,

I am due to fly to New York for work and work have paid for my ticket in economy class. Being a long flight i am really keen on experiencing QF's J class out of my own pocket. What is the best way to get upgraded? Go early to the check in desks or ask the work travel agent to charge the difference or amount to me?

Any help would be great! Cheers..

If you mean a paid upgrade then you would be best speaking to your work travel agent or giving Qantas a call directly (in that order). I would not wait until the day of travel and try to do it at the airport as you will be paying full fare. Hopefully work has booked you near full fare economy and that QF has some specials floating around as you may find otherwise the gap payment to be around $10,000 return. If there are some specials this may be more like $3500 to $4000.

It is a shame, as both Delta and United have some specials at the moment to Los Angeles for as little as $4500 return in business which is about the same price as Qantas Premium Economy or Flexible Economy. Add another $1,800 for the LAX-JFK return on AA and you have a ticket in business SYD-JFK for the same price as Qantas Premium Economy/ Flexible Economy.
