Default Aircraft construction date vs. delivery date

Just searched G5 N36GV on PlanePlotter and according to the airframes database it was built in 2002 but delivered in 2005..... Is this common or would this delivery date be the aircrafts most recent delivery to the current owner?

N36GV GULFSTREAM AEROSPACE G-V GLF5 674 L2J A40A9D W/S G-V CORP TRUSTEE Built:2002 Delivered:2005-02-25

Nick according to Aviation Letter 434 January 2003 GV-5 C/N674 was delivered to East Coast Aviation as N25GV, So i would say N36GV was built in 2003 and delivered to Westfields in 2005.

According to airlinerlist.com, GV c/n 674 was delivered to East Coast Aviation on 15/11/02 as N25GV, then later registered to East Coast Brokerage Services on 18/2/03 and subsequently delivered to Westfield on 20/7/05 as N36GV.

So I presume that Plane Plotter shows the date of last delivery as it would be uncommon for an aircraft to be built in 2002 and not not delivered to its first operator for over three years.

unless the aircraft was used as a company demonstrator or development aircraft for new avionics for example. At BAe we often had BAe125's delivered to customers long after FF for these reasons
