Default ANOTHER "Engine Failure" - QF107 18/01/11

Hi all,

Just thought I'd provide a heads up. My brother, who was travelling on QF107 today to LAX, just rang me up telling me that the aircraft has had an "engine failure" as he put it.
From what he has told me, they got an hour past Fiji, then had to divert back to Fiji. From what I can find out on ACARS, the bird was VH-OJA.

Would be interested to find out what actually happened if anyone would have the right sources.

Cheers

If it is serious enough I'm hoping for a Qantas V-pod operation Hopefully it's not too severe though, Qantas has had so much bad media lately

I did photograph OJA today as it left. Don't they normally operate the ER's on this route? I know they can't always though.

Ever since the A380s were taken out of service, it seems there has been a bit of a shake up with 744 operations, and the ERs are not seen as often. Also, OEI is in Avalon at the moment.

Thanks Jason. OEI is on my 'wanted' list for photos I need.

Was there a replacement sent?

I heard it was fixed overnight and continued in the am WED.

My sources in this are not great I concede.

If a replacement was sent makes it a terribly expensive exercise doesnt it?

Kind regards,

Geoff

Geoff,

I'm not sure what OJA is doing, but OJN left late last night as QF6020 to Nadi. It is currently on approach to LA as QF107D.
