Default Emirates eyeing Adelaide as a destination

How real or close is Emirates coming to Adelaide? According to this article, the city is coming to the top of their assessment for daily services. And Adelaide flights aren't part of the flight quota Emirates has for Australia (see here).

Also in other board members' opinions, is ADL a market best served non-stop to DXB, or via another port such as with BNE? For example, could they open a new route out of ADL with routing such as ADL-BKK-DXB?

Justin,
I read somewhere (possibly another forum) that the possible routing would be DXB-DPS-ADL (awaiting Indonesian approval) but if that fails, SIN would be the stopover point.

I've heard (like Jayden I'm not sure where) EK is currently working on arrival and departure times to get the best connections over DXB to/from Europe.

Jayden - ADL-DPS-DXB is interesting routing. Gives great access to DPS from Europe with ADL as a tag on almost. But if it gets EK into ADL then great.

Rowan - Hopefully ADL's curfew restrictions can still allow for the flights to commence and with good connections in DXB.

ADLs curfew and high landing charges will always deter new entrants into the market.
I also heard a possible DXB-CGK-ADL routing using A343s.

Jarden, Emirates are retiring the A343's from 28FEB13 so having them operate here is unlikely as they're tied up on HYD and VCE.

Indeed. It is also my understanding that there are no engineers at ADL with a current A343 ticket. CX has talked about switching its ADL A333 service to A343 for the summertime at least twice since 2008. Both times they were unable to, as there was/is no-one in ADL who could/can sign off on the A343 for departure.

I suspect that leaves them with the A332 for an ADL venture. Depending of course how long those will be staying in the EK fleet...

Seeing an A345 in ADL would be nice though...

There articles circulating last week where it stated that they are intending on using B777's.

incorrect...
there certainly is people in adelaide with 340 tickets....who don't work for QF who has the engineering contract for CX , at this moment....

from talking to a friend who works for emirates, DPS was mentioned.
