Default Article - Herald Sun 28/10

Hi All,

Another Article by a Herald Sun Reporter getting it wrong - http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/maj...-1226748524136

Wrong Facts:
Quote:
A MAJOR storm lashing southern parts of the UK has disrupted a number of Qantas flights, as 130 flights were reportedly cancelled at London's Heathrow Airport on Monday.

Six flights with the Australian airline, scheduled to depart Heathrow on Monday and Tuesday, were listed as delayed tonight.

Most were bound for domestic or European destinations, but a 10.45am flight to Dubai was also held up.
And this list
Quote:
Qantas flights delayed:

Mon 28 October 2013

08:40 QF3355 Aberdeen, delayed until 09:12

08:55 QF3389 Brussels, delayed until 09:32

10:10 QF3613 Berlin, delayed until 10:36

09:10 QF8008 Dubai, delayed until 10:45

Tue 29 October 2013

13:00 QF3369 Leeds/Bradford, delayed until 14:02

16:20 QF3459 Edinburgh, delayed until 16:51
Anyone tell me whats wrong with the article??

I know, but do you???

I wish reporters would get their articles checked for fact before they publish!!!

Stuart

Hi All,

An update - This article has now been changed.
The HS Author - Samantha Landy, has removed her name from the Article and the article now looks like this - http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/maj...-1226748524136

I had write this to her first

Hello Samantha,

I wish to point out some errors in your article titled “Major Storm un UK causes Cancellation of Qantas flights” - http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/maj...-1226748524136

You stated “Six flights with the Australian airline, scheduled to depart Heathrow on Monday and Tuesday, were listed as delayed tonight.
Most were bound for domestic or European destinations, but a 10.45am flight to Dubai was also held up.”
This is in correct.

Also you stated this “Qantas flights delayed:”
Mon 28 October 2013
08:40 QF3355 Aberdeen, delayed until 09:12
08:55 QF3389 Brussels, delayed until 09:32
10:10 QF3613 Berlin, delayed until 10:36
09:10 QF8008 Dubai, delayed until 10:45

Tue 29 October 2013
13:00 QF3369 Leeds/Bradford, delayed until 14:02
16:20 QF3459 Edinburgh, delayed until 16:51

The above flights are all Codeshared flights, and are NOT operated by Qantas or Australian Aircraft.
These are operated by British Airways with Qantas Codeshared Flight Numbers, except for QF8008, which is operated and crewed by Emirates Airlines as EK008
Codeshare flights are very common all over the world, with Airline Partners.
Therefore there are Zero (0) flights affected with the Australian Airline – Qantas.

FYI, Qantas now operates only 2 flights Daily from London Heathrow, on their own aircraft.
They are QF002 to Sydney via Dubai (Codeshared as EK5102)
And QF010 to Melbourne via Dubai (Codeshared with Emirates as EK5110)

Please check the facts before publishing totally incorrect story and please amend your article to reflect the truth.
Finally, this cross checking of details took me approx 20 mins do to.

I look forward to seeing your correction in the article.

Regards,

Stuart

Was I too hard on her??

Stuart

No, you weren't too hard on her at all. It was lazy journalism to start with. Most non-aviation enthusiasts, especially journalists would know that Qantas doesn't fly its own metal to Aberdeen, Brussels, Leeds, Edinburgh and Berlin.

They spend enough time bagging them about not flying to more European destinations anyway
