Default Philippine Airlines to build its own Manila airport

Recently San Miguel Corporation, one of the Philippine largest groups, bought a 49% interest in Philippine Airlines and Air Philippines Express. San Mig plans to spend as much as $8.5 billion over the next 10 years to restore Philippine Airlines to its position as one of the region's top carriers and accelerate San Miguel's transformation from a colonial-era brewer to a modern, infrastructure-and-consumer-based conglomerate.

San Mig has now announced it will break ground before the year ends on a 4,000-hectare development near Manila, which will have, as its primary tenant, a four-runway international airport and a modern air terminal capable of handling as many as 100 million passengers a year. It will also have its own electricity source, which will be cheaper than the present modes provided by commercial power producers. (San Mig owns a power station)

As Manila NAIA (MNL) is a one runway airport and terminal 1, the international terminal, recently made the top 10 worst airports of the world, and new airport would be a great asset.

Clark Airport which is about 105km north of Manila and where a number LCC fly is an alternate, but not for the business community going to MNL.

Maybe QF and VA should get into bed and build their own airport near Sydney
