Qantas Vancouver 2019

Hi all, is Qantas doing their seasonal flights to Vancouver in 2019? I have searched everywhere and cannot see any Sydney to Vancouver direct flights for 2019 either mid year or December.

Any information is appreciated.

Interesting. I couldn't find any direct flights (QF74/75) in the usual seasonal period of four weeks in July 2019, either.

I always thought that Vancouver would be a great B789 year round route for QANTAS starting with 3 services per week to give some competition to AC. Alas, aircraft #8 has gone to operate Hong Kong services.

Its very hard to compete with AC, and there are better destinations to compete with other carriers when it comes to passenger loads.

We are looking to go next year and if not Qantas, then we’ll fly Air New Zealand. We went with Qantas last Christmas and loved it. The loads on our flights were full. Pity if Qantas don’t head up next year.

Seat utilisation was 82% in January, significantly lower than most other routes on the inbound leg.

Now that most of December 2019 is loaded into the QANTAS timetable I searched again for Vancouver flights and they are scheduled on Mon, Thu and Sat from 12 December, 2019 with 744 equipment. The current seasonal timetable goes to 26 January, 2019, so I guess that for 2019/2020 the flights will continue until approximately 25 January, 2020.

There are still no non-stop flights to Vancouver scheduled in July, 2019.

Thanks James. I phoned Qantas and was advised that mid year flights are off this year. Only running for December/January as you mentioned.

Routes Online added the following item to its site on 13 February, 2019 to clarify the QANTAS Vancouver seasonal flights in 2019:

Qantas Airways in 2019/20 is adjusting Sydney – Vancouver seasonal service. Based on schedule listing, the airline will not operate 3 weekly flights during the month of June and July in 2019, however it’ll continue to serve this route during Northern winter 2019/20 season, from 12DEC19 to 25JAN20, as of 12FEB19.

Boeing 747-400 operates this route 3 times a week.

Is there any likelihood of the seasonal services (our winter !) being extended in 2020 beyond the loaded dates deeper into July and then August 2020 ?

QANTAS are operating 744 services to YVR from 12/12/19 to 25/1/20 and from 25/6/20 to 30/7/20 ex SYD as QF75/76. These are loaded into the QANTAS reservation system so I would say that they are the only period they will operate to YVR until late 2020 when the seasonal services, if they continue, will need to be operated by another aircraft following the retirement of the 744s.
