Default QF 581/582 Using 747 Aircraft

Does Qantas make a profit using VH-OJD on the short flight from Sydney to Perth and back? I know this aircraft does change sometimes but it is usually VH-OJD 2 class cabin aircraft.

Do Qantas actually own these aircraft after 20 years of service?

I believe Qantas own nearly all the 747 fleet outright with the exception of the sale - lease back aircraft. The -ER variants may still be under finance, but they are owned outright aswell.

QF581/582 today was VH-OEJ. Good use of a 4 cabin ER if you ask me....

VH-OJD is the only B744 that does not have a PE cabin installed, hence the use of OJD mainly on domestic routes.

Is it known how long Qantas plan to use the 747 on this route?
I am considering to book a flight on qf581/582 - but knowing my luck there will be a change of equipment the day I book to fly.
It would be a wasted trip as I have no other reason to visit Perth!
