Just read on Sky news that Nairobi only has one working fire engine and 3 were sold off as they couldn't pay the $1000 to fix them... Definately take a while to fix...

probably old news now but a friend heard on the radio at the time that some policemen 'raided' the duty free store because the operator/owner didn't have the necessary authority/licence etc to be there and they took all the grog and they started the fire? to destroy the evidence. Can't confirm everything but that's what he heard.
Dad was in the British Army and we did a 4 year tour there. Arrived on an Eagle Airways DC4 or DC6 in 1959 and left on a British United Britannia in 1963 just after they got independence. In those days you walked to the plane and remember passing Connies of Air France, Air India plus newly delivered South African 707's and of course a few Comet's, Dc-3's etc..
