I'm using Nikon D100, D200 and D300 gear, Nikon all the way in my eyes.

Anyone considering Canon but can't quite stretch the budget to new gear, I'll be putting my well looked-after 50D and 70-200 f2.8L (not IS sorry) up for sale in the next week or so.

Will consider any reasonable offers - keep an eye on the trading room thread.

You are too right Brian, had a Sony A390 so much dust and the sharpness was really lacking not to mention the noise even at low ISO. I got a canon 7D now and couldn't be happier I would reccomend it especially with 100-400mL lens if you can afford it.

Couldn't agree less.

Minolta made fantastic film cameras and the current Sony line up of SLT cameras is good.

My Sony matched with a 70 to 400 G lens is capturing great photos.

I know Canon and Nikon make beautiful cameras but they aren't the only brands out there capable of quality photography.

If you're starting fresh again, best to go and try both out in store and see what fits you - the new crop of Nikon bodies are , according to test better than Canon, but the Canon bodies seem to do the job if you don't want to print the size of houses. Lenses though seem to be cheaper on the Canon side of the fence with a better range.

Recommended bodies - Nikon D7000 / Canon 7D

Note that new firmware for the 7D has just been announced that will upgrade the cameras features to near that of a 5DIII .... and a new 7DII is about 6-12 mths away.

Me? I use Canon, because I have the lenses for it.

... just make your mind up by not listening to the fanbois on either side and go with your own decision after playing with them - you can't lose either way to be honest.
