Default American Airlines Chapter 11

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/mone...ankruptcy.html

Quote:
The parent company for American Airlines, the nation's third largest carrier, filed for bankruptcy, citing high labor costs and a volatile economy.

American Airlines, the largest carrier at Los Angeles International Airport, sought to assure passengers that the filing would not affect their travel plans, saying all tickets, reservations and reward points would be honored.

"American Airlines remains open for business," said Craig Kreeger, the airline's vice president for customer experience. "It's business as usual."

Until it filed for Chapter 11 protection Tuesday, AMR Corp. represented the last major network carrier in the U.S. to avoid bankruptcy in the tumultuous decade since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks

About time this happened, hopefully they'll be a much stronger, competitive and efficient airline after coming out of CH11, and I'm sure they will be with the right management and a huge amount of new aircraft on order!

A couple of good tweets on the AA Chapter 11 ...

"With American Airlines stock at 20 cents, I can't decide between paying for two checked bags or buying half the company."

"REAL REASON FOR @AmericanAir DECLARE BANKRUPTCY IS THEY NO FIGURE OUT YET HOW TO MAKE 787 WITH SHINY CHROME FINISH."

"Seems to me that as an industry airlines do a better job filing bankruptcy than delivering luggage."

"BREAKING: American Airlines filing Chapter 11. I hope this doesn't hurt AA ability to delay flights and lose luggage"

wonder why AA took so long to do this. Think they may have missed the boat to a certain extent.
