Default Leased Air New Zealand aircraft

Hello all,

just checking if anyone knows which Air New Zealand aircraft are owned and leased. More importantly, does Air New Zealand own any of their B747-400's or are they are sold and leased back?

-SUJ and -SUH used to be registered elsewhere according to the NZ registry database.

Just read your post a little more carefully afraid I'm not sure on leasing arrangements but I'm sure someone around here can help.

Without looking it up, I thought NZ owned 4 and leased 4 of the 744's when they were operating all 8.

Actually, checking Air Fleets http://www.airfleets.net/flottecie/A...ctive-b747.htm

Five use NZ's Boeing suffix of 19 (747-419 - NBS - stored, NBT, NBU, NBV, NBW) and the other three (SUH, SUI and SUJ) came to NZ from elsewhere although not sure whether they are leased as you can see from below, only NBW is listed as leased.

24896 (855) 747-475 07/11/1994 ZK-SUH Named city of Dunedin
24957 (971) 747-441 17/04/1995 ZK-SUI Named Queenstown
25605 (933) 747-419 14/09/1992 ZK-NBU Named Rotorua
26910 (1180) 747-419 31/10/1998 ZK-NBV Named Christchurch
27602 (1161) 747-4F6 07/10/1998 ZK-SUJ
29375 (1228) 747-419 08/09/1999 ZK-NBW Named Wellington lsd from ILFC

ZK NBV is the only 744 owned by Air NZ, according to the Tech Ops website.

with the CASA one it's easier to figure out for australian aircraft...

[edit: ok .. just checked the CAA's and it's of no use]

thank you to all wo replied. You have been most helpful. Would love to see a 747-8 in their fleet, but I believe this will never happen.

Indeed. ACAS shows the other 747s are owned mainly by ILFC but also Global Knafaim Leasing.

Majority of the fleet is leased. Air NZ owns most of their 737s, all 767s, and half of the 772s.

Alas Dave, I fear you are correct. With Air New Zealand it's always been about the range and not the capacity. Up until this lastest crop of ETOPS Twins, the 744 was the only real option for them but now the 77W (and the 77E to some extent) steps into the breach with great ecomomics and also good cargo capabilty. I suspect the 787-9 will also take care of a lot of their long haul - geez, witn NZ, almost anywhere is long haul
