Just a news release of interest:

The heads of all oneworld® member airlines today renewed their companies' commitment to the alliance. They pledged to step up their own carriers' oneworld activities across all areas, from customer service through sales, marketing and distribution to sharing best practice and cost reduction.

To symbolize this renewed commitment, all the alliance's member airlines are to decorate a proportion of their aircraft fleets in a standard oneworld livery. From now, every airline in the alliance will decorate a proportion of its fleet in the oneworld livery - around 40 aircraft in total, mainly types that fly on international routes.

It looks like QF will be one of the airlines which gets one of them. This is the image that they put together:

Some time back, there was discussions about a 'Special Livery' perhaps on a QF A380... Maybe this is what that discussion revolved around??

Good grief, it's all a bit half ars#d. I get the feeling that they feel they need to do something but aren't really committed.

The problem is that I suppose we shouldn't expect too much from an alliance livery. Look at Star Alliance. They're not really anything special.

I had heightened hopes after seeing Japan Air Lines and what they applied to their B777's when they entered oneworld but they've since been removed and will be replaced with this slightly less interesting scheme.

At least though all oneworld carriers will keep their identity unlike Star Alliance (except Singapore Airlines), but I hope we don't see this livery on an A380. Maybe a B737, an A330 and a B744? I read somewhere it will be 3% of the overall fleet, and on international serving aircraft where possible.

Will SkyTeam follow suit as well?

Dan
