It was actually this morning (think before 8:30), not this afternoon.

Not quite sure about that Chris. If you read the article the Virgin A/C was slow to start it's roll and when it did start to roll its take of clearance had to be cancelled due to an aircraft landing on the cross runway.

Now the fact the Virgin a/c had a take off clearance that had to be cancelled AFTER it had already started it's roll is a little bit disconcerting. Why for example did the a/c coming on the cross runway have landing clearance if another a/c had take off clearance on a runway that crossed theirs? Was their landing clearance cancelled?

It's a minor incident, how are the controllers supposed to know if the aircraft is going to be slow to roll? The controller can give or cancel clearance at anytime within reason, it's just a media dramatization!

Slow news day. There could be any number of reasons the clearance was cancelled. It appears ATC made a judgement call based on least risk to the 2 aircraft (and any other aircraft in the terminal area). In this instance he/she didn't send the landing aircraft around.

So the article headline says it "slammed" it's brakes on, then the article itself says it was only travelling at taxi speed...

The article that is now in that link is different to the one that was first published. The one that was there before had quotes from passengers and made out that the aircraft was going more than just taxi speed, hence the need to 'slam on the brakes'.
