Default YMML - Cat III ?

Why did we still have diversions in YMML due to fog ?

I thought YMML was Cat III ?

No it certainly isn't.

Some steps have been taken towards making it low vis approved, but as yet still only CAT I.

Guess we'll wait and see when they introduce it, but my gut feeling is we might be waiting a while.

CAT I, as with other major airports in Australia.

YMML will be the only airport in Australia to be equipped with CAT III when it is commissioned.
