Default New Air NZ trans-tasman and short haul product

Air New Zealand today (18MAR10) announced a revamped inflight products and pricing strategy on service to Australia and Pacific Islands. With the change of these inflight products rolling out progressively between October and December 2010, the Star Alliance carrier will once again re-introducing flight number range NZ700 – 999 to distinguish these service.

Details below:

Introduction of 4-tier service.

Seat Only

Seat+Bag

•1 carry-on bag (7kg)
•1 checked bag (23kg)
•Entertainment:TV, music, games

The Works

•1 checked bag (23kg)
•Seat Request
•Entertainment:TV, music, games and movies
•Tea, coffee and water
•A meal and drinks

Works Deluxe

•Seat
•1 carry-on bag (7kg)
•2 priority checked bags (23kg each)
•Premium check-in
•Seat request
•Lounge access
•Entertainment: TV, music, games and movies
•Tea, coffee and water
•A meal and drinks
•Neighbour-free guarantee

These flight options will be available on Airbus A320 fleet that operates service Trans-Tasman (Australia) and Pacific Island routes, and will be distinguished by flight number range NZ700 – 999 starting 31OCT10. The Airbus A320 will be reconfigured into single-class 171-seater, at 30-32″ seat pitch.

Business Class seating will be eliminated.

However, on flights operated by Boeing 747, 767, and 777 aircraft, Business Class seating will be offered under “Work Deluxe”. There will be no changes to existing products offered on:

•Auckland – Niue
•Auckland – Papeete
•Auckland – Perth
•Sydney – Rarotonga

It is anticipating 18AUG10 launch of new service on Christchurch – Sydney, which goes on sale 29APR10. From 31OCT10, there will be flight number changes on the routes with new product offering:

Does this mean no more space+ on NZ shorthaul? If so then this will be a great loss in my opinion.

Likely not as generous as it is now. They will have 171 seats in the A320 where JQ fit 177.
