Nadi's main runway is almost 11000 feet!

You also have to use runway 20 for takeoff, 02 takes you right into the mountains. I'm not sure how the 380 would go but I suspect it couldn't get out of a ~3300 metre runway at max weight. But since it was going to Sydney or Melbourne, it wouldn't need a lot of fuel and would be pretty light anyway. |

In terms of a full passenger load, the aircraft would get out of there no problems I'd imagine! (As long as the wind was light, or a southerly). Don't need a lot of fuel to go Nadi to Aus. The A380, although large, uses relatively little runway compared to some other aircraft.

And the 380 the other night only had a handful of crew and enough gas to get to Melbourne. Posed no problem at all.
If a diversion happens again when operating LAX-SYD/MEL (and it will happen!) then I'd say that even with a full load of pax and enough gas to continue onto Australia it would do it pretty easily. |
