Russell, the public transport links to Bankstown are reliable but infrequent, especially on weekends and in the middle of the day. I don't know if taking the train is convenient for you but it is easy to take the train to Bankstown station and get the 905 bus (from memory) from North Terrace, on the northern side of the train line. It takes about 15 minutes to get to the airport. Schools on the northern side of the field (e.g. Schofields) are a short walk away from the bus stops on Marion St. Bring a hat in summer though!
