Default Cessna 172 accident in NSW

Searchers yesterday recovered the body of a pilot whose Cessna 172 had crashed into a dam on his property about 100 km south of Broken Hill.

The pilot, Rob Seekamp, aged 52 had departed Woolcunda Station on a local mustering flight on Monday morning.

A number of helicopters from Adelaide were used in the search which took 48 hours to find that the accident site was only a few minutes from the departure point. The Bell 412 " Rescue 51 " was one of the choppers.

TV footage showed a broken nose leg on the edge of the dam, the aircraft was largely submerged and the pilot's body was found on the edge of the dam.

Aircraft was a 1978 Cessna 172N VH-UFN.

( thanks to Mel Davis for filling in a few details )
