I made one of my rare trips to sydney and spent most of my time there on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week .You are sure losing alot of your viewing ability with those nasty red cranes, however it was good and i managed to photograph quite a few including Air Austral.

Did you not once have arrival screens as well as departure screens on this deck ?

Cheers Lloyd

The red cranes should be gone by now. I think they were planning on pulling the tower crane down from the T1 redevelopment project sometime this week with a 450t monster , and the big one on Bay 10 should be gone by now (when I say big one, it could extend to 90+ metres).

The screens were there not long ago Lloyd. I have no idea why they have taken them down for?

I normally have my laptop and wireless broadband up there and use that for info anyway.

I don't know what the official closing time is, but last time I was there at night we were asked to leave at around 10-10:30pm so they could shut the area down.

The operating restrictions placed on that particular crane mean it can only be used at certain times of the night. I don't believe they can operate it at all during daylight hours, hence it is in its lowered resting position (it still sticks up 20m in the air!).

Does the screen still have the regos on it? Everytime I am there, they either have the standard SYD Airport screen, but other times they have a black and white screen with the regos on the screen.

The 'dreadful red crane' has now been dismantled and is leaving the airport as I type. The view from the obs deck is clear again.
