Default Qantas Flight Numbers (TN***)

Just wondering if someone can tell me what sort of flights these Qantas ones are as in normal passenger flights, re-positioning or cargo.

For eg tonight's ones:

VH-XML TN7336 13/05/2009 22:36 Qantas B737-376 Sydney-Melbourne

VH-TJU TN0807 13/05/2009 21:20 Qantas B737-476 Sydney-Canberra

VH-OGN QF7623 13/05/2009 22:24 Qantas B767-338(ER) Sydney-Auckland (cargo i think?)
(courtesy of 16ight.com)

and i heard another one just can't remember which it was.

Any help would be good

Cheers
Gerard

The first one there is a freight run with the AAE 733 using the old TAA/Australian ID.

The second is a normal scheduled Qantas service again using the TAA/Australian ID.

And for the third one you are correct it is indeed freight.

As to why TN is used i would not have a clue

TN is used by Qantas to retain the old Australian Airlines designator.

QF also run an overnight freight service to New Zild using a 767. The a/c ops YSSY-NZAA as a freighter then returns as the first pax flight to YSSY next morning. One of the evening YSSY-NZAA pax flights picks up freight at NZAA and ops as a freighter to YSSY via NZCH.

TN flight numbers are now used by Tahiti Nui.They would be coming from those aircraft because they were built for TAA and they used the TN flight designators.

Very much like Air Pacific's 747-400s sending out the SQ code as the aircraft are leased from SingAir. The software hasn't been changed to FJ.

After the Pilot's dispute back in 1989, several of these aircraft spent time with Malaysian Airlines.

They were the B737-400s VH-TJG and VH-TJI which took up new regos of 9M-MLD and 9M-MLE
