The last remaining B707 in the RAAF made a fleeting visit this afternoon. Windsor 49, sporting a farewell livery, came in on 34R and departed in a cloud of smoke on 34L.

I'd forgotten just how bloody loud they are on departure, but had the privilege to stand on the gable markers for what is likely to be her last visit to Sydney. The ears are still ringing...

Nigel, how regular are such military operations (disregarding near dairly 34 squadron ops) at yssy?

Where did the B707 go to after arriving (assuming it didn't just taxi to depart again straight away) and are there any different procedures you follow if such an aircraft is in town?

Not very. It's been a long time since an RAAF 707, or anything other than a Challenger or B737 for that matter, came in on my shifts.

It went to Dom-6 to unload 2 bus loads of passengers. I wasn't even told it was coming, but the Fixed Base Operator (FBO) who looked after it had busses organised to come airside. As far as I was concerned it was just another aeroplane arriving.

I assume it then went to Richmond. I was told it only landed at Sydney because the Richmond crash and fire response level wasn't high enough for it with so many passengers, but was adequate when it had only crew on board.
Departures on 129.7 gave it unrestricted speed, but didn't give an altitude above the SID's 5000' for the few seconds I listened in.

Hope this helps.
