I believe these are for Sydney-based routes. My best guess is those routes where you currently see the Virgin E-jets (ABX, PMQ etc)

Qantas says the addition of larger aircraft to its Queensland fleet will have a positive impact on the Wide Bay area.

QantasLink will take possession of 12 Bombardier Q400 aircraft and the first three are expected to arrive in the next two months.

The acquisition means five return flights, suspended between Brisbane and Gladstone and 10 suspended between Brisbane and Rockhampton, will be reinstated.

The capacity of some services between Rockhampton and Mackay will also be boosted by the same amount.

The reshuffle of the fleet has also meant an additional three weekly return services between Brisbane and Roma.

Dash 8 aircraft will be used on three weekly return services between Hervey Bay and Brisbane.

The Mayor of the Bundaberg Regional Council says the extra capacity of the new planes will be a boost to the region.

Lorraine Pyefinch says it also highlights why the upcoming Bundaberg Airport upgrade is so important.

"The 72-seat planes do actually highlight the fact that we do need a new terminal facility," she said.

"The baggage handling facilities of our current airport really are stretched when you get an aircraft of that size coming in."
