Re the Euro Taxpayer, you may want to check on Airbus' loan structures with regard to R&D and how this affects the 380 (as well as other new Airbus projects such as the 350) and it's development costs. It is true though, the more traditionally manfactured 380 took to the sky earlier in their program but struggled from there.

As for defence contracts, Airbus are doing their best there too - Aus Airforce330 Tankers for example not to mention the troubled Military freighter program. Airbus' owner EADS manufacture Eurofighter, Eurocopter and a myriad of other products. However, I believe Boeing's Commercial Aircraft division is very profitable (several models have sold 1,000 plus) independent to the defence business so I don't know where you get the "clearly propped up" from.

Is there whole heap of cheap second hand A321's and A320's around given some of the airline collapses around the world over the last 12 months?

Might be worth buying used aircraft if the price is right.

Apples to oranges comparison.

The A380, for all its good and bad points is nothing more than a conventionally designed and built airplane - Boeing/Airbus have produced similar jets for almost a half century.

The 787 is an entirely new kettle of fish, not just because of the mismanaged supply chain, but also because of the unique breakthrough technologies its bringing to the marketplace.

No doubt, the 787 so far has been a mess equal to its sales success - but to contrast it to the A380 is laughable.

Getting back to Jetstar, maybe I'm wrong in saying it, but the way the Press seem to latch on to the "cataclysmic" scenario that JQ will be missing out on 787's is equally laughable.

If JQ needed capacity, why the heck did they cancel 2 A330's they were supposed to be leasing?

Whatever the 787's flaws, the global downturn is a good thing for the 787.

Theres no "rush" for it - oil is at its lowerst in four years, capacity cuts are still not yet done and many airlines are standing down jets and not replacing them - only today TAP Air Portugal cancelled 8 A320's.

Just watch in 2009 how many cancellations Airbus & Boeing both suffer - this incessant media rambling about the 787 is getting slightly boring because of the void in relating it to real world circumstances.
