Default Pana VS R?C IFE.....My thoughts...

I had great QF round trip to Sydney last week. I noticed the Panasonic IFE on A332 VH-EBN was tending to be a bit buggy, with the flight map refusing to load at all during flight until we were touched down.. Am I alone on this one?

In comparison, the Rockwell Collins setup on A333 VH-QPH was superb in it's operation with no bugs and stood up well for a 5 year old system. The only thing to neg here is the amount of content, but for a 5 hour SYD-PER leg it is more than enough.

TO summarise, i think the new EFX system should use hard keys (possibly mounted within the TFT panel housing) and rely less on the touch component.

Hey Richard,

Your experience seems to mirror mine - I had EBM both on the SYD-PER and back and the map seems to trip over itself after 2 hours each time (fortunately I had an empty seat next to me both there and back). I didn't bother getting the crew to reset, but about 45 minutes after the map froze up, the system rebooted itself and went back to the main menu and all was fine after.

This happened on the way there and back, which led me to think that it may have been a problem specific to the aircraft. Given that you seem to have the same problem as well, I am guessing it's just that the software is not particularly well-written. Maybe someone should send feedback to QF?

Cheers,
Wenglock.

P.S. Just out of curiosity - does anyone know if the IFE on the A380 behaves like that?

IFE on the QF A380 seems to work perfectly. I had no problems watching a few shows whilst sitting on the tarmac at LHR, and then even a couple of hours later flying over eastern europe and down to singapore. And that was on VH-OQB August 2009..
